The daily chronicle of my family as we embark on our quest to relocate from New York to Cairo... the impending journey to get there and the daily lives of myself, my husband and our four children... and other random thoughts while living in Cairo!

Looking to make contact with other Muslimahs who are like myself with small children living or will be living in a foreign country.

I invite you to share the experience with us as we try to make this happen!

In relaxation mode...

I feel the need to kick back and relax... in spite of all the boxes, clothes, books, food and other miscellaneous items sitting in the middle of house beckoning for my attention! I'm sooo tired of looking at this stuff... I feel as if I haven't even made a dent. So here we are amongst the books tonight that need to be boxed up so I started reading some of my favorite quotes (I'm a quote loving girl).....
-
Tonight's featured writer: Aristole
-
-All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reason, passion, and desire.

-All paid jobs absorb and degrade the mind.

-All virtue is summed up in dealing justly

-Man perfected by society is the best of all animals; he is the most terrible of all when he lives without law, and without justice.

-The moral virtues, then, are produced in us neither by nature nor against nature. Nature, indeed, prepares in us the ground for their reception, but their complete formation is the product of habit

-We are what we repeatedly do

-I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who overcomes his enemies

-Piety requires us to honor truth above our friends

-To enjoy the things we ought and to hate the things we ought has the greatest bearing on excellence of character.

And one of my all time favorites:

-It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it

Me too I like quotes :) I used to study philosophy in Uni, it was sooo cool. At the time the philosophers existed, I guess it was quite a break in realistic thought ... but now, alhumdullah Islam fulfills that place in my heart... in fact it is one of the main reasons I converted - all the haidths, and sunnah that just "made sense" and was based in truth. SubhanAllah.

Millz- yes, that last one is definitely a personal favorite!

Umm Trav- psychology and philosophy were my first loves in high school and college as well- you can learn much when you sit, absorb and reflect...

Mona- you're welcome!

I love these! THANKS for sharing. This one looks like something that could've been said by the prophet saw "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who overcomes his enemies"

And girl, good luck with your boxes, and packing all that stuff! I can't even imagine how stressful and tiring that is!

Hijabee- yes, a few of them are ever so wise and sound like something our beloved Prophet (PBUH) would say... and yeah gurl, just imagine being here with stuff all around you where you cant walk and a 4 year old, a 2 year old running behind unloading everything or putting in different places and a 5 month old screaming for your attention... a typical day in my house right now (bangs head on wall)(lol)

Lazeena- darling, I was wondering why I didn't hear from you... was awaiting the bill. Oh yes, please dont remind me about the UNLOADING part... Oy!

Najea- well, ya know... great minds DO think alike- lol

Umm Khadijah- yes, between Aristole and Khalil Gibran, I could read quotes all day...

Inspired- me too, me too! lol

Ihssan- I wish I could break more (being totally lazy!) but my deadline is fastly approaching- but Alhumdulillah, yesterday 3 sisters came by and really helped me out! Now, all I need to conquer is packing clothes... you never realize JUST how much stuff you have until you're moving... ugh!

Assalamualaikum,

Hope that you're done with your packing by now. ^^ I recalled the last time I had to move, took me 3 whole days to pack all the stuff. It was exhausting! But I doubt it is anything near what you're going through. Thanks for sharing the wonderful quotes. ^

Hajar- not exactly done! Alhumdulillah a few sisters came by to help me over the weekend so most things for the shipper are done but we still have a ways to go!
