The daily chronicle of my family as we embark on our quest to relocate from New York to Cairo... the impending journey to get there and the daily lives of myself, my husband and our four children... and other random thoughts while living in Cairo!

Looking to make contact with other Muslimahs who are like myself with small children living or will be living in a foreign country.

I invite you to share the experience with us as we try to make this happen!

UAE lifestyle- Part II

Well, since I posted the link to the original, disturbing story concerning the lives of foreign workers and other expats over in the UAE, our brother over at One Root has posted some more information in regards to this- and have included some video from the KSA.

I must say, my concern with the original story was the lives of the workers... not those who foolishly go over there and run up debt without common sense and are not "informed" of the laws of that country so let's be clear on that. Before anybody embarks on the quest to relocate anywhere, they should familiarize themselves with the laws of that country or at least be with people who can tell you the "dos" and "donts" of the land...

I read the first part.. Thanks for posting the links.. Good to be informed about what's happening. So many people in the UK have been going over to Dubai on holiday and have been raving about the experience. I've never been there and hmmm... comple turn off reading the articles from going there in the future.

Lion-ess: Yes, it's amazing how NOBODY want to talk about this... like its taboo or something.

I supposed to go there to see my MIL but I've been so turned off by reading and hearing all the numbing negativity, I feel the same way you do at this point

Eventually got the time to skim through the article ... honestly, it was a difficult read in the sense that, even though I am fully aware that the conditions are also prevalent in my place, yet it is still an appalling fact.

Just the other day, my sister's friend in Dubai mentioned about some vacancies she came to know of there and I was contemplating whether I ought to take the plunge. After several diggings, I opted otherwise considering that, one should be knowledgeable in the laws of the land; to which I am most definitely not; or else risk the gamble of knowing it later, which may result to dire consequences such as mentioned.

Hajar- sis, I'm glad you took the time to check it out... even with coming to place like Cairo, I did soooo much reading over the years (this plan is 4+ years in the making) and asked a zillion questions to all my friends living here- it helpls to know plenty- and the raw truth as well... some paint a picture where everything was great but then I had some tell me the "nitty gritty" of life here- which I appreciated as I made myself much more equipped with trying to handle life here.

Come visit me!!! Always space for another Muslimah.... <3

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence..like the idea of looking at the neighbours lawn and seeing it as better looking, healthier and greener then our own when in reality we fail to noticed the negative side about it and completly downplay everything positive about our own laws.Same goes to anything in life, sometime look is deception, most time it is not. But knowledge and experienced would shaped it all, and indeed would determine the outcome..

Thanks for sharing this Anissa. It was good to read a different perspective. Hope you're doing fine and your kids are doing great. We didn't get a chance to chat since like forever. Hopefully we will catch up soon. Take care sister.

LoL~ Honestly, I am seriously more interested in discovering the nitty gritty details cos' that's the kind of stuff we would have to deal with the most! Insha'Allah, provided I have the opportunity, time and cash to spare, I'll bunk in there and provide you a complimentary roach exterminator course! :P

there is a video that is making waves now... it supposedly shows one of the members of Abu Dhabi's ruling family abusing and torturing a man. Someone snuck it out of the UAE and now it is being broadcast in the US. Have you heard about that? I haven't seen it and I doubt they would allow it here...

How are things going for you? Are you settled in and loving Egypt? Have you found your Haagen Das yet? :)
