The daily chronicle of my family as we embark on our quest to relocate from New York to Cairo... the impending journey to get there and the daily lives of myself, my husband and our four children... and other random thoughts while living in Cairo!

Looking to make contact with other Muslimahs who are like myself with small children living or will be living in a foreign country.

I invite you to share the experience with us as we try to make this happen!

Somebody! Please help!!!

I have come to realize within the past few weeks that I have an addiction.... yes, addicted to Haagen Dazs. I've tried to sub with the mall Carvel ice cream (which isn't tasty... more like some sort of ice milk) and nothing will satisfy my cravings for my favorite brand. I've checked all the markets already- including the biggest one around, Carrefour- there the ice cream selections are just plain weird and NOT very appealing... at all.

Can someone PLEASE tell me where to find my love in Cairo??? If I can't get to an actual store where the selections and toppings can NOT be compared, I'll settle most definitely for frozen...

It's gotten so bad that even when I look at my kids Hershey's chocolate sauce in the fridge, I start itching for ice cream... sick, right? All the "little" things we take for granted.... sigh. I need help..... please...... somebody! ;)

I leaned in reading this post thinking that there was indeed Hagen Daaz in Egypt but then I realized you were as desperate as I. Man, even Carvel sucks? What a shame. Try to get through the withdrawals Anisa!

Queen- thank goodness I have no cravings for Godiva- that's another problem in itself.... ugh!

I would even settle for my other home favorite I grew up eating, Breyer's as they are all natural- they add nothing you can't pronounce or have a scientific name of some chemical to make it taste yummy.... milk, lots of cream, fruits and whatever your fancy is!

How can any country NOT have a Haagen Dazs store? Or AT LEAST sell it frozen? Whatta a cruel world.... ;P

Mona- I knew you would understand my plight... once you have it, there's NO going back.

The Carvel is like some watery ice milk... yuck. I tried it one day when I was leaving the mall only to be disappointed!

Yeah, if somebody cant tell me where to get it, I think I just might end up wrapped in blankets, shivering like some junky when I think of my yummy, creamy, delectable love... (started shivering) LOL

movenpick in the containers isn't bad but it costs an arm and a leg... 30 + guinay for a container. Sultana's at city star is alright. arabs have a different expecton on ice cream than us! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! i remember Baskin Robbins is good, and is the real deal. at least when i had it.

I remember being the same way when I spent three months in India... the ice cream is just different over there! Also, if you haven't tried it, Haagen Dazs makes some AMAZING mango ice cream. :)

Umm Imran- okay, sis... now, where is there even a Baskin Robbins here? Beggars can't be too choosy (but I gotta have some REAL ice cream, ya know what I mean?) so I would even settle for that right now... let me know!

Natasha- Are you kidding me? The mango is one of my favorites!!! Oh sooooo yummy! That one next to the tried-and-true staple perfect after diiner- vanilla swiss almond. Close runner up classics: mint chocolate chip, dulce de leche, white chocolate raspberry truffle... and the vanilla honey bee is excellent! And with that one, Haagen Dazs was donating money from the sales to save the honey bees... pretty cool.

I don't think there's one I haven't tried (and the hips show it too!) :P

As-salaamu-alaikum Sis. Anisa,

I write you this from BROOKLYN! I miss you and wish you were in NYC!

But, about your addiction, as long as you aren't smoking cigarettes in hijab - we're cool. Because when I see a hijabi smoking I want to holler, fuss and fight! You know what I'm saying?

Hey!
Good news! I think that there IS a Haagen Dazs in Egypt! It just opened a few months ago and I think it's in Mohandiseen, or so I've heard...I'll try find out where exactly.
Other than that, Movenpick is probably your best choice...

Okay so there's no Haagen Dazs store yet, but you can order it by phone from: http://www.voilaluxuryfoods.com/
Download their catalog and there's lots of ice cream in the dessert section :) They deliver to your house.
There's also 11,000 LE caviar haha! Crazy...
